About Me

Xavier Vilajosana, received his B.S. and M.S degree from the Technical University of Catalonia (2002) (2004) and Ph.D. (2009) degree from the Open University of Catalonia, all in Computer Science Engineering. Xavier is co-founder of Worldsensing. He is also full professor and ICREA Academia researcher at the Computer Science, Telecommunications and Multimedia department at the Open University of Catalonia. From 2011 to 2014, Xavier was visiting Professor at the EECS department of the University of California Berkeley being awarded with a prestigious Fulbright fellowship. He has also been senior researcher at the HP R&D Labs for a period of 3 years and research engineer at France Telecom R&D Labs, Paris in 2008. Xavier has been one of the main promoters of low power wireless standards fostering its application to industrial fields. He also contributed to the industrialization and introduction of Low Power Wide Area Networks to urban scenarios through Worldsensing. Xavier is author of different RFCs at the IETF, as part of his standardization activities for low power industrial networks. Xavier is contributing actively at the IETF 6TiSCH, Detnet and RAW Working Groups. Xavier holds more than 30 patents, more than 70 high impact journal publications and has contributed with several demos, tutorials and courses in the field of low power wireless networks. He has also participated in the creation of other startup companies beyond Worldsensing, being Sensefileds and OpenMote Technologies two of the successful ones. Some of his works have been awarded in the major conferences in the communications and sensorics areas such as IEEE INFOCOM, Globecom and IEEE Sensors. He has also received different entrepreneurship awards on behalf of Worldsensing such as the prestigious IBM SmartCap Global award back in 2011. Xavier is an IEEE Senior Member and founding member of the IEEE Sensors Council in Spain. Xavier is also a member of the LoRaWAN Alliance and advisor of the European Processor Initiative (EPI).
